We would like to invite you to visit the 9th edition of THE BALKANS INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION and FESTIVAL, which will be held in Sofia from 11-13 June as a OPEN AIR festival in front of the most spectacular venue of Soifa - National Palace of Culture. The BIWC 2020 is а meeting point of wine producers from the Balkan Peninsula, Central and Eastern Europe, Black Sea region as well as to wine producers from other wine regions.

Specialized Trade Tasting for the BIWC 2020 importers, buyers, distributors, wine journalists and bloggers is scheduled for June 11, 2020 from 17:00 to 19:00 at the festival's venue.
Why the Balkans?
The BALKANS can be proud of the most ancient wine history in the world.
The BALKANS local grape varieties are at least as rich as rich is the spirit of the people in the region. With nearly 1.8 million tons wine production per year, the BALKANS ranks 5th in the world, right after the largest wine producing countries - Italy, France, Spain and the USA. For the last decade the BALKANS mades enormous progress in the quality of its wines and can stake its claims as a key player on the world wine map.
Who will judge the wines on the BIWC 2020?
Balkan wines will be tasted and judged by some of the greatest Masters of Wine like Chairman of the BIWC Konstantinos Lazarakis MW – The first Master of Wine in the Balkans, John Salvi MW - UK/France, Lynne Coyle MW - ireland, Andreas Wickhoff MW - Austria, Maria Sofia dare Biankolin - Germany/ Italy, Svetoslav Manolev MS - Bulgaria/UK, Roberto Lepori - Italy, Ivana Simjanovska - North Macedonia, Horia Hasnas - Romania, Evangelos Beris PhD - Greece and many more helping in this way to build the positive image of the Balkan wines in the wine world.
The jury will choose a winner in each of the following categories: dry white wine, dry red wine, dry rosé wine, orange wine, sparkling wine and dessert wine. The winner in each category will be awarded a special trophy. The Grand Trophy of the Balkans International Wine Competition 2020 will be awarded independently of category, and to the wine that our international jury deems to be the finest, most desirable and most marketable wine presented at the competition.

The BIWC 2020 winners will be announced officially at a special Award Ceremony followed by a Gala Dinner, to take place on 12 June 2020 at 08:30 PM at the Misala hall, Hilton Hotel Only at the Gala Dinner there will be a possibility for the awarded wines to be tasted at the special WINNERS TASTING BAR!
